call 9/11

So 9-11. That day was actually pretty crazy. First, it is my step-brother's birthday. So that sucked for him. Second, my dad was on a flight to New York that day (luckily, it was much later that day).

The week before a guy at my school had died in a drunk driving accident. Septemeber 11th was also his memorial service. My whole 4th grade class and I walked up to the auditorium and sat during this extremely sad service then back into the classroom to find out New York was under attack... really was rough.

On top of everything, my teacher at the time, Mrs. Taylor, had a brother in the FDNY. He ended up passing when the 1st tower collapsed.

My school was later dismissed and my mother came and picked me up. I think we went to Winn-Dixie or Kroger and got my step-brother a Key Lime Pie (his favorite) for his birthday.

The whole experience was pretty scary for me. I had these reoccurring nightmares about Bin Laden living in my basement. Really bizarre.

I don't really believe America overall to be anymore safer post-9/11. I guess security crack-down on airlines has probably prevented some attacks. But really I believe that all things the government got away with because of fear, like the Patriot Act, have affected us negatively.

What really makes me sad is how people have already (only 8 years later) started to forget about the attacks.
